Debra Reed, Hunterdon County Park Naturalist

Summer is almost here, and we are pleased to present a guided “Walk and Talk” to enjoy nature as you identify trees in our lovely Holland Park Trail. Join Debra Reed for a stroll around the trail to explore the season. This summer’s tree walk will take you along the wooded perimeter trail, noting the shapes, smells, and textures of the native species found in Hunterdon County. In addition to sharing her knowledge and love of the trees, she will also talk about the invasive flora and insects that are affecting the health of our forests and fields. We will also have David Harrison, our tree expert from the Holland Environmental Commission, joining the walk. He will have brochures of our local trees as he points out those identified with its name and a QR code to find out further information from our Website.  This is an easy 1.25 mile loop trail on grassy terrain with benches along the Way.  See www.hollandtownsip.gov/envronmentalresources for further trail information.

Presented by: Debra Reed, Hunterdon County Park Naturalist.

I'm Debra, a naturalist, fueled by curiosity, discovery, and a passion for the natural world. It is that passion of the natural environment that I share with our local community. I started my love of the outdoors when I was four years old, camping in the wilds of New Jersey. A local resident of Raritan township, I spent my childhood hiking the South Branch River and enjoying the pond at Echo Hill.

I joined the Hunterdon County Parks Division full-time as a Park Naturalist in 2018, after being the Seasonal Park Naturalist in 2017. As a previous teacher and master ecologist, I relish educating others and sharing about the environment. I run the nature club and am involved with our Summer Nature Program. I have created several new programs at the Parks, including Shinrin-Yoku (Forest Bathing), an indoor insect program, Dragonflies, and a family-based nature club. I also volunteer in the community as a scout leader and ski patroller.
